01 / Applications

Define the motion.
Build the motor specification.

Choose the application, then coordinate actual speed, starting behavior, operating cycle and the driven machine. Final ratings follow the proposed motor model.

01 / APPLICATIONHoist MotorsLIFTING DUTY

Hoist Motors

Record load, hook speed, reeving, starts and lowering/braking duty. Coordinate motor speed, gearbox ratio and the holding system.

02 / APPLICATIONTrolley Travel MotorsCROSS-TRAVEL

Trolley Travel Motors

Specify moving mass, wheel arrangement, speed, acceleration and drive count. Review cooling and inverter duty at low speed.

03 / APPLICATIONLong-Travel MotorsRUNWAY TRAVEL

Long-Travel Motors

Share crane mass, travel speed, wheel/driven-wheel arrangement, gradient and outdoor conditions for the drive review.

02 / Duty & control

The working cycle matters.
The complete drive matters too.

Bring the mechanical and electrical data together before comparing motor ratings. Specify the functions and accessories the application needs.

01 / POWER

Load & actual speed

Use hook speed for hoisting and linear travel speed for CT/LT. Include gearbox ratio, reeving, driven-wheel arrangement and external transmission.

02 / DUTY

Starts & operating cycle

Record ED, starts per hour, load cycle, acceleration, lowering and ambient conditions. Simple factors do not verify the thermal rating.

03 / CONTROL

VFD or pole-changing

Coordinate the voltage/frequency, actual speed range, motor/inverter compatibility and low-speed cooling requirements.

04 / INTERFACES

Brake, feedback & mounting

Share shaft/flange/foot dimensions, brake requirements, encoder interface, thermal sensors and terminal-box orientation.

03 / Configure & plan

Build the motor enquiry.
Make the assumptions visible.

Record operating data and accessory requests. Review the separate power reference alongside the original budget comparison. Neither calculation selects a motor, brake or thermal duty rating.

Your Motor Configuration

Sample values are for discussion. Hoist speed means hook speed; travel mass means the moving crane/trolley mass. Add drive count and actual transmission data in the notes.

Options, quantity & target timing

Options and IP ratings require model confirmation. Target timing is a request, not confirmed delivery. Brake, encoder, thermal sensors and cooling require motor/control compatibility review.

04 / Technical scope

Motor, control and duty.
One coordinated package.

Review the source specification areas against the proposed motor. Efficiency, duty, protection and accessories require model-specific confirmation.

TypesSquirrel-cage induction motors for hoist / trolley / long-travel; wound-rotor requirements subject to supply confirmation.
StandardsProject requirements may refer to IEC 60034, FEM duty guidance and ISO 281 bearing-life calculations. Confirm applicable editions, evidence and scope in the proposal; this page establishes no compliance.
EfficiencyIE2 / IE3 request directions; actual efficiency class, applicability and available evidence confirmed per model.
Insulation & ProtectionClass F/H and IP55–IP65 requests, confirmed for the actual motor and installation.
Voltage380–460V, 50/60Hz, 3-phase
DutyS3/S4 motor-duty requests and M4–M6 mechanism-duty information are reviewed separately. Do not assume an automatic equivalence between motor duty, M class and FEM group.
OptionsDC disc brake, encoder, PTC/PT100, forced ventilation, space heater, tropicalization
AccessoriesBrake rectifier, terminal box rotation, special shafts, paint systems

The selectable values record requirements. Neither the simplified multiplier nor the power list verifies a motor frame, S3/S4 rating, efficiency class, braking capability or compliance.

05 / Motor references

See the arrangement.
Define the application.

Existing website images provide a starting reference for motor and crane-drive layouts. They do not establish the exact model, rating or a verified customer installation.

06 / Project steps

From operating data
to an agreed motor package.

Define the application, review the model and agree the inspection and supply scope before delivery.

01

Sizing

Load/mass, speed, operating duty and environment.

02

Proposal

Review power, frame, control, interfaces and budget.

03

Manufacture

Confirm winding, assembly and inspection scope.

04

Testing

Agree electrical, run and brake/control checks.

05

Delivery

Confirm drawings, documentation and packing.

Planning a motor
replacement or new build?

Actual duty, speed and interfaces guide the selected model.

Discuss My Motor Requirements ↗
What information helps identify a replacement motor?

Send motor/gearbox nameplates, mounting and shaft dimensions, actual operating speed, voltage/frequency, control method and the working cycle. Include the brake, encoder, sensors and installation environment.

Why does the budget comparison differ from the separate hoist-power reference?

The original budget divides hoist power by rope falls. At a given hook speed, reeving reduces rope force while increasing rope speed, so that division can understate motor power. The separate reference does not divide by falls. The original budget remains visible only for comparison and does not price a verified motor.

Does the listed kW band select a motor?

No. It is a comparison with the original discrete list, not a catalogue frame, approved rating or motor selection. If the reference exceeds 200 kW, no next band is invented. Actual mechanical and thermal selection requires project data.

Is 1.8 times motor torque a brake selection?

No. The retained illustration assumes 1450 rpm and uses the original budget kW basis. Actual holding and dynamic braking depend on brake location, gearing, load, inertia, closing behavior and duty. The illustration does not establish a minimum rated brake.

How are travel power and brake requests handled?

Travel power uses rolling resistance only and omits acceleration, gradients, wind and drive sharing. A travel brake request is recorded, but the original travel price branch adds no brake cost. Its actual supply scope needs a separate quotation.

Does the calculator verify duty, efficiency or delivery?

No. M-class/ED/start/ambient factors are illustrative, and S3/S4 duty, efficiency class, insulation, IP rating and inverter compatibility require actual motor review. The quantity budget is EXW and timing choices are requests; final price and delivery need confirmation.
